Guernsey's Heather Watson has lost in the first round of the Goldwater Women's Tennis Classic in Phoenix, United States. The world number 176 lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to Canada's Heidi El Tabakh, who is ranked 216. The 18-year-old Sarnian was playing in her first singles match since winning the Tevlin Challenger in Toronto. The defeat all but ends her hopes of finishing the year inside the world's top 150 players.
