Swardeston Cricket Club make Twenty20 Rose Bowl final

Swardeston say their next match will be the most important in their history

Swardeston Cricket Club have made it through to the final of the Cockspur Rum Club Twenty20 tournament after beating Oundle at The Common on Sunday.

The Norfolk side chased down the target of 143 with five balls to spare, booking a space in the final.

Swardeston opener Mark Thomas told BBC Radio Norfolk: "We are just going to enjoy it. It's a chance in a lifetime so we'll give it our best."

The national final will be held at Hampshire's Rose Bowl on 23 September.

The Norfolk side will be up against three other teams in the finals, which takes place a day after the England v Pakistan International.

Thomas knows Swardeston, who play in the East Anglian Premier League, will be firm underdogs.

He said: "I don't think we've booked our holidays yet. It'll probably look quite funny on the TV when you've got South Northumberland, a team from Birmingham who most people have heard of, Bootle and then Swardeston who no-one's heard of."

But Thomas is not dismissive about his side's chances at the Test match ground. "We can compete with anyone and we've proved that so far in the tournament. We'll just keep playing how we've played and then we've got every chance of doing well."
