Norfolk rugby sides in opening day defeat

North Walsham players
Walsham are looking to improve on last season's 11th placed finish

North Walsham and Diss started their new season campaign with disappointing defeats at home.

Despite bringing in 15 new players, The Vikings lost 13-17 to Gravesend at Scottow while Diss narrowly missed out 27-33 to Bishop's Stortford.

North Walsham were 10-3 up at half-time thanks to a try from Adam Couzens and a further five points from Mark McCall.

However, The Vikings failed to make the most of a two-man advantage when two Gravesend forwards were yellow-carded.

Diss, who have already set themselves the target of a top-5 finish, could only peg back the visitors early runaway lead to a more respectable score.
