Sri Lanka 208 & 361-7 v Pakistan 478
Kaneria took 6-102 and bowled all day |
Danish Kaneria's six-wicket haul handed Pakistan a great chance of squaring the Test series against Sri Lanka. The spinner bowled for the entire day for his 6-102 from 45 overs in Karachi.
Sri Lanka ended day four on 361-7, a lead of only 91 runs, after a rash of late wickets fell with Chaminda Vaas and Farveez Maharoof at the crease.
Both Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara scored centuries but four wickets fell for 27 runs to hand the advantage to Pakistan.
Jayasuriya completed his 14th Test century before he departed for 107, caught at mid-wicket, off Kaneria.
Mahela Jayawardene departed in similar fashion for 32 not long after the lunch interval.
But Sri Lanka dug in with Sangakkara and Thilan Samaraweera putting on 80 runs for the fourth wicket. Samaraweera eventually went for a hard-fought 22 off 130 balls and Sangakkara's innings came to an end when he became Naved-ul-Hasan's first Test wicket when he departed for 138.
Kaneria then removed Jehan Mubarak for two and Romesh Kaluwitharana for seven to leave Sri Lanka staring at defeat.
