North Marine Road has hosted county championship matches since 1874 |
Scarborough Cricket Club are keen to renew their deal to remain as one of Yorkshire's outgrounds. The current deal expires at the end of next season and club chairman Bill Mustoe told BBC Radio York they are working on a new agreement. "Yorkshire want to come here as a club. The spectators do. We will find a way. "I'm looking for a long-term agreement because I think then we have a chance of attracting perhaps some tourism investment which will help everybody." North Marine Road is Yorkshire's last remaining outground and Scarborough pay Yorkshire to be able to host games there including during the annual Scarborough Cricket Festival. | This is a big asset to east coast tourism and I'm convinced that it will continue Scarborough chairman Bill Mustoe |
Mustoe said the club has also worked hard to make improvements to the ground after it was criticised in a national newspaper during Yorkshire's County Championship match against Nottinghamshire in July. "Nobody likes to receive criticism and I didn't agree with it all as you would expect me to say but like a lot of these things there are grains of truth and we've just redoubled our efforts," he said. "We take a huge pride in the way the ground is presented and it does look a picture. "We've had some volunteers who've come forward from our membership and just redoubled our efforts. But it is about pride. "It's about pride in Yorkshire cricket, it's about pride for Scarborough, for tourism on the east coast. "This is a big asset to east coast tourism and I'm convinced that it will continue."
