Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose has praised the county's pace attack for coping without injured former England bowler Andrew Caddick.

Caddick has taken just one Championship wicket but, half-way through the season, the Taunton outfit are fourth.

"Two or three of the bowlers have excellent records, certainly Charl Willoughby, Alfonso Thomas and Ben Phillips," Rose told BBC Radio Bristol.

"Steffan Jones has stepped up to the mark and he's bowling well," he said.

Rose said Caddick would be in the squad for Wednesday's Championship fixture at Sussex after impressing for the Second XI against Essex last week.

"He looked like Andrew Caddick and that's the first time I've been able to say that this season.

"He'll go to Horsham and certainly be available for selection."

With eight four-day games to go, Rose has been delighted with the level of performance.

"Every game we've played, including our unfortunate loss against Yorkshire, we've been well in the games and winning most of the sessions.

"We're got everybody back and fit and we've just had a break, that's been helpful.

"We're ready to take everybody on and we'll be hard to beat," Rose added.
