Hussey played for Australia in the ICC World Twenty20 |
Nottinghamshire have announced that Australia international batsman David Hussey will captain their Twenty20 campaign this season. Hussey, 32, returns to the Outlaws to take over from Chris Read, who will skipper in other forms of the game. Read told BBC Radio Nottingham: "David's had experience of leading Victoria and is one of the best T20 cricketers in the world. "The ideas and innovations he'll bring to the side are invaluable." Director of cricket Mick Newell added: "If you're keeping wicket, Twenty20 is the hardest form of cricket to captain in. Chris has so many things to think about - changing the field almost every ball, changing the bowlers almost every over, plus the job behind the stumps. "I hope that David will look upon it as a challenge, and maybe it could inspire him with the bat as well." Read has captained Notts to the top of the County Championship table, with four wins from their opening five matches. And the 32-year-old is hoping that the break from captaincy could benefit Notts later in the season. "It allows me to have a bit of a break for a month. Hopefully, it'll pay dividends in the other competitions, where I'll be leading the side," he said. Notts' first home Twenty20 fixture this season is against Derbyshire Falcons on 11 June.
