Tredwell was over in the Caribbean as cover for Graeme Swann |
Kent coach Paul Farbrace said James Tredwell's England call-up for the one-day series against Bangladesh has come as a timely boost for his side. The off-spinner, who already has one cap, has been drafted in as cover for Graeme Swann who is being rested. Farbrace, whose side have won just seven games in all competitions, told BBC Radio Kent: "It has been tough. "But when you have people selected for England it shows you are not doing things terribly wrong." He added: "If we string a few results together and we start winning and you get people playing for England then your club is moving in the right direction. "So I think we should take it as a massive pat on the back for everybody and everybody's very proud of Treddy because he's a Kent boy through and through." | It's a great accolade for Kent and it's a great accolade for James himself |
Farbrace has already been without Tredwell and in-form batsman Darren Stevens for a fortnight as the pair are with the England Lions, and the Kent coach insists they can cope without Tredwell for a bit longer. "I've known for a couple of weeks that he [Tredwell] was going to be selected. "The England selectors very kindly gave us a bit of information so we've been budgeting for James being away for three weeks - with the Lions for two and then with England. "It's a great accolade for Kent, it's a great accolade for James himself. "It's fantastic for a county like Kent where we're desperately trying to produce our own players - when you can say to young academy boys 'if you work as hard as Treddy has over the last few years, then playing for England is well within your reach'." The first one-day international against Bangladesh is on Thursday, 8 July followed by matches on 10 and 12 July.
