Dartford manager Tony Burman says he is not sure if new striker Jacob Erskine will be his replacement for former top scorer Charlie Sheringham.
The much-travelled 22-year-old scored his first goal for the club in their 3-0 win at Thurrock, which saw them go third in Blue Square Bet South.
But Burman told BBC Radio Kent: "I've signed Jacob to have a look at him.
"You sign a forward and straightaway everyone thinks it's a replacement. He's not, he's here in his own right."
Burman added: "He was available and we're giving him an opportunity which I hope he grabs with both hands."
Sheringham, 23, who scored 12 goals for the Darts this season, left Princes Park last week after completing a move to League One Bournemouth.
Burman said: "Charlie was a great lad and he's done brilliant for us but he's now gone and we've got to move on.
"They performed on Saturday but just didn't quite get things right regarding putting the ball in the back of the net.
"But that will happen and after the two losses in the league, this was an excellent three points for us."
