Tim De La Haye's 28 runs proved crucial for Jersey |
Jersey won a tense and nail biting match over Scotland in the ICC Europe Under-17 Division One Championships in Stormont, Ireland on Thursday. Chasing 128 to win, Jersey reached their target with two wickets and just two overs to spare. Head coach Craig Hogan was delighted with the win. "It was fantastic to win one of these close ones; the Under 15s did it last week and now these guys, just really pleased for them." | Chasing another low score, but this time they really got stuck in Jersey head coach Craig Hogan |
Scotland batted first but Jersey's slow bowlers, Captain Ben Stevens and James Faudemer conceded only 38 runs from their twenty overs, meaning the Scots could never get forward momentum. On a difficult and rain affected pitch, Jersey made it hard on themselves, losing wickets at regular intervals, with only one partnership (Bodenstein & De La Haye) breaking 30 runs. 28 from Tim de la Haye, the leading run-scorer in the tournament, was probably the difference between the two teams. Hogan told BBC Radio Jersey he was pleased with the attitude of his players through out the tournament. "We've had a really good week, we had Guernsey by the throat when the rain came in, and it was more a case of us losing against the Netherlands than them beating us." "The boys really learnt from the loss to the Dutch, chasing another low score, but this time they really got stuck in and most of them put a lot of valued in their wicket." Jersey's next match is against reigning champions and tournament leaders Ireland on Friday.
