Jersey's surf kayak team have qualified in second to make the finals of the World Kayak Championships being held in Santa Cruz in Portugal.

The Jersey team will be looking to improve on their fourth-placed finish in the team event in Spain in 2007.

The islanders will have to beat a strong Northern Ireland team, as well as favourites England and reining champions the Basques.

Jersey's paddlers continued their great form in the individual categories.

Alisa McDougal moved into the semi-finals of the ladies international class, while former world junior champion David Speller is through to round three of the high performance section.
