York made an excellent start to the defence of their Yorkshire Premier League title with a comfortable seven-wicket win at Sheffield Collegiate. York dismissed Collegiate for 183. Neil Laidlaw took 6-78 and Nick Kay 3-32. In reply York's Australian Dan Wilson made 90 and Ashley Hulme 55 not out to overhaul Collegiate's total with 20 overs to spare and take eight points. Scarborough lost at Driffield by just three runs. The hosts posted 259-7, Scarborough 256-8. Scarborough's James Finch took 3-82, and in reply Darren Harland and Kunwar Banzil made 57 each, and later Piet Rinke and Tom Pateman made 47 each, but ran out of time. Driffield take six points and Scarborough two points for achieving 90% of the total. Last season's bottom club Harrogate lost at home to Castleford, who finished second last year, by only 13 runs. Shazada Khan, Dominic Sharp and Hanif Mohammed all took three wickets for Harrogate as Castleford made 156. In reply skipper John Proud made 30 on his return to the club, but they were all out for 143. "We were pretty confident of winning at half time on a decent wicket, but we didn't bat very well," Proud told BBC Radio York, "but there were encouraging signs, and we'll do better than last year."
