Guernsey came within a run of beating Jersey at the weekend |
Guernsey could get the opportunity to play in the World Cricket league as the ICC looks to expand the global game. The island are the highest ranked side in Europe not to be in the world league set-up after their second place at the European Division Two tournament. "There is a potential world cricket league," the ICC's Regional Performance Officer of Europe, Phillip Hudson told BBC Guernsey. The ICC are set to add two new divisions to the World Cricket League. Jersey qualified for WCL Division Five after coming second in the ECC Division Two Championships in 2006 and gained promotion to the WCL Division four earlier this summer. "We've got to have a look at the rankings in Europe and find out which of the countries we feel are capable of performing in those two divisions," Hudson added. Guernsey would seem to be the most likely to qualify, having lost to Jersey by a single run on Saturday and having beaten a host of other sides on their way to the final.
