Waddington is the first man to win three consecutive titles since the 1980s |
Jock Waddington strode to a third consecutive Parish Walk title in blazing sunshine on Saturday. Waddington completed the 85-mile race in 15 hours 18 minutes and five seconds to become the third quickest man in the event's history. He said: "I'm absolutely ecstatic - it will take a while for this to sink in. I am physically and emotionally drained." He becomes the third competitor to have won three back-to-back Parish titles. "To join Willie Corkill and John Cannell in the record books means a great deal to me," added Waddington. The Douglas man finished almost 40 minutes ahead of Vinny Lynch. Michael George was third in a time of 16:04:07 with Richard Gerrard, Terry Moffat and Richard Spenceley completing the top six. Meanwhile, five-time winner Robbie Callister retired at Lezayre. Susan Moore was the fastest woman home, finishing 12th overall in a time of 17:44:13. One hundred and thirty three walkers completed the race in the 24-hour time limit.
