Parish walk is not about money - Cox Parish Walk organiser Raymond Cox has told BBC Isle of Man he is "over the moon" with the ever increasing popularity of the event. More than 1,700 walkers will line up at the National Sports Centre on Saturday to attempt the 85-mile walk, which must be completed within 24 hours. Cox said: "We are delighted that so many people are up for the challenge, the numbers are amazing." The race will get underway at 0800 BST and conclude on Douglas Promenade. In 2009, 1,621 walkers signed on for the race with a record 187 completing the full course within the time limit. Jock Waddington won for a second year in a row, while Janice Quirk became the fastest woman in the event's history, finishing second. The under-21 race is over 32 miles to Peel on the west coast of the island.
