Jock Waddington will be looking for a third consecutive title in 2010 |
Organisers of the 2010 Parish Walk are urging people to sign on for this year's event before Saturday's deadline. Over 1,350 walkers have already signed-up and hundreds more are expected to join them before the deadline. Organiser Raymond Cox told BBC Isle of Man: "The numbers are extremely high this year, so we recommend to get signed up as soon as possible." Around 1,750 are expected to line up at the NSC in Douglas on 26 June. Competitors have 24 hours to complete the 85-mile course which visits all 17 parish churches around the island and finishes on Douglas Promenade. In 2009, 1,620 walkers signed-on for the race with a record 187 completing the full course within the time limit. Jock Waddington won for a second year in a row, whilst Janice Quirk became the fastest woman in the events' history, finishing second.
