Simpson was also British 800m champion in 2007 |
Cornish middle distance runner Jemma Simpson has retained her UK 800m title at the UK Championships in Birmingham. The 26-year-old, who runs for Newquay-Par AC, won Sunday's final at the Alexandra Stadium in a time of 2:01.50. Simpson won the race in the absence of the quickest qualifier, Jenny Meadows, who pulled out with a tight calf after the semi-finals. The win means Simpson has also secured a place on the Great Britain team for the forthcoming European Championships. Second place in the final went to Vicky Griffiths, while Marilyn Okoro came home in third.
