Cornish middle-distance runner Jemma Simpson has risen up to second in the UK's 800m rankings after a season's best result in Rome on Thursday. The 26-year-old Newquay and Par runner came fifth in the IAAF Diamond League race in a time of 1:59.58. That result puts Simpson second in the UK rankings behind Jenny Meadows, who came third in Rome in 1:58.89. Thursday's race was won by Morrocan runner Halima Hachlaf who finished in a tie of 1:58.40.
