Meadows hopes for success in Berlin and then Gateshead |
Great Britain 800m runner Jenny Meadows has targeted success in August's Aviva Grand Prix at Gateshead Stadium. Meadows, 28, beat Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo in Morocco's May event and sees the Gateshead race as an important part of her schedule. "The Aviva British Grand Prix is always a tough field," she said. "There's a lot to prove as everyone will just have finished at the World Championships, so there will no doubt be points to prove all round." "But I know if I can continue the season as I've begun then I've got everything to play for," she added. Meadows was an 800m semi-finalist at the Olympics in Beijing last year, and finished fifth behind Marilyn Okoro at last year's event. | The experience I had at the Olympics last year has given me even more of a hunger to go out and prove my place |
And despite competition from colleagues such as Okoro, Jemma Simpson and Becky Lyne, the Wigan Harriers' runner is happy to be part of a strong British field. "As always there's a really strong group of girls, but that doesn't bother me, as I'm so used to the great competition we all have, if anything it just spurs me on," she added. "The experience I had at the Olympics last year has given me even more of a hunger to go out and prove my place in the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the World Championships in Berlin. "I really want to get out to Berlin and get to the final."
