Simpson went out in the opening round at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing

Cornwall's Jemma Simpson missed out on a place in the 800m final at the World Athletics Championships after finishing fifth in her semi-final in Berlin.

Simpson, who is the British number one and ranked six in the world, was expected to qualify after finishing second in her heat on Sunday.

At the World Championships in 2007 Simpson qualified for the final but only managed to finish eighth.

Simpson was born in Plymouth and now runs for Newquay & Par AC.
