Cornwall's Jemma Simpson says running at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing will be a dream come true.

The 24-year-old Newquay and Par athlete was selected to compete in the 800m after coming second at the trials in Birmingham earlier this month.

"I am over the moon and it is kind of like living a dream I suppose," the 2007 national 800m champion told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I'm still in shock. I'm still trying to let it sink in a little bit."

Simpson first took up the sport after going out for a run with her mother as a child, and cites the legendary sprinter Michael Johnson as one of her biggest influences.

She says her first goal is to reach the 800m final.

"I'll do my best to get through the rounds and get to the final, and hopefully be competitive and challenge in the final."
