Brewer ran the fastest two 1,500m times of his life in Berlin
James Brewer has insisted he was not intimidated after only narrowly missing out on a place in the 1500m final at the World Championships in Berlin.
The 21-year-old was just 0.08 seconds outside qualifying from his semi final.
"I didn't really feel out of place, I felt like I was right in amongst it," Brewer told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"On one hand I'm really pleased to have done what I have and on the other just disappointed to have missed out by such a small margin, but that's athletics."
Brewer's semi final time of three minutes 37.27 was just marginally outside the personal best of 3:37.17 he ran finishing third in his heat.
His performance and attitude has impressed the former Olympic medallist and BBC distance running expert Brendan Foster.
"You've got to say that this boy looks to be in his element in world-class championships, I think he's done a great job," he said.
Brewer was previously an 800m runner and only moved up to 1500m this year, but he has not ruled out competing over both distances.
"The 1500 seems to come quite naturally to me, but I still think I've got more to do over 800," he said.
"It'd be nice if I could get another 800 in this season because I think I should be able to run a personal best in that, but 1500 seems to suit me so I think I'll be doing more of those in the future.
"I'm not sure when I'll compete next, there's the British Grand Prix in Gateshead, I may be there - we'll have to wait and see, I haven't really planned past this week."
