Jersey had to work hard for the win over Old Albanian |
Jersey Rugby Club came from 14-6 behind at half-time to beat Old Albanian 31-21 and secure at least a play-off spot. The fightback extended the islanders' winning run to 15 games and means they will finish no lower than second place in National Two South. They are three points behind Ealing Trailfinders with just two games left. Steve O'Brien (2) and Nick Trower touched down for Jersey at St Peter and Terry Adams, Marc Comb and Johannes Lombaard scored for the visitors. The National Two South winners will go up automatically, whilst the second-placed side will face their counterparts from the North section in a promotion play-off. Jersey coach Ben Harvey told BBC Radio Jersey: "I thought we showed an incredible amount of courage and bottle in the last 15 minutes. "We didn't play particularly well, but the character of a side is shown when you're not playing particularly well and you've got to make sure you do the right things at the right time. "It was a bit disappointing in the way we played today, but the character of the lads was fantastic." Jersey have been unbeaten at home for over two years, but that record had looked in doubt early on in the game. Two-try hero O'Brien said: "We knew we've got the firepower in the squad to beat anyone and we knew these guys were going to come out firing. "We stuck to our task and we got our reward - it feels great." Jersey need one more point to guarantee they have home advantage if they enter the promotion play-off.
