Robinson was sacked after a dire run of results but Dallaglio made new coach Brian Ashton's England squad for the 2007 World Cup. A poor performance in the lacklustre group win over the USA cost him his place in the starting XV and he was left out altogether for the 36-0 thrashing by South Africa, but he found himself back on the bench for the rest of the tournament. England came back from the dead to drag themselves into the final but there was to be no fairytale ending to his international career as South Africa won 15-6 in Paris in what was to prove his final England appearance. |
