Clive Woodward - he would have to wait several more years to become a Sir - took over as England's first full-time coach in September 1997, and one of his first decisions was to appoint Dallaglio as captain. The 25-year-old proudly led England out at Twickenham against Australia in the 15-15 draw which marked the start of the Woodward era. The job looked to be Dallaglio's for years to come, but a "sting" in the tail was just around the corner. |
