Point To Prove: Richard Horne
Richard Horne

Richard Horne (Hull)

The Hull FC and Great Britain international had more reason than most people to welcome the end of 2008.

He missed the start of the season with a foot injury and then in his third game back suffered a neck injury which one specialist told him would mean he would not be able to play again.

The 26-year-old spent 12 weeks in a neck brace but was given the all-clear to resume his career at the start of August having lost a couple of stones in weight.

Despite being nowhere near match fitness and looking particularly gaunt, he lined out in the Challenge Cup final against St Helens and showed why he is such an important figure for the Black and Whites.

But that was not the end of his medical problems and late last year he was diagnosed with diabetes.

However, the condition is not going to deter Horne from playing the game and now he is back to full fitness and looking forward to his testimonial season and linking up with new half-back signing Chris Thorman.
