Point To Prove: Paul Cooke
Paul Cooke

Paul Cooke (Hull KR)

2009 is set to be a key season for Cooke, one of the most talented stand-offs in the country but someone for whom off-field issues have caused problems.

Last season Cooke, who joined Hull KR in a controversial cross-city move from Hull FC in 2007, was convicted for drink-driving.

He was later suspended by the club for a number of games for unspecified disciplinary reasons and his future at Craven Park was in serious doubt.

However, according to all accounts, the 27-year-old appears to have turned over a new leaf in pre-season training and is looking sharp with coach Justin Morgan insisting that Cooke will start the new season with a clean slate.

Cooke's partnership with scrum-half Michael Dobson will be important and with England caps up for grabs at the end of the season, he will be hoping to catch the eye of coach Tony Smith.
