South African star Natalie du Toit competes in the Paralympics after finishing a highly creditable 16th place in the Olympic 10km swimming event, as well as carrying her nation's flag at the opening ceremony. The 24-year-old had her left leg amputated below the knee after a scooter accident in 2001, but went on to appear at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and qualify for the able-bodied 800m final. Du Toit dominated the events in her S9 category four years ago, winning five golds and a silver and could easily repeat the feat this time. The only woman to beat her in Athens was Canada's Stephanie Dixon in the 100m backstroke and she will challenge again, along with rising British star Louise Watkin.
