Rising stars British table tennis is having a major renaissance with rising participation and funding for new facilities, development support and regular training in China. Steen Hansen (far left), who joined the sport in 2001 at a time when the national academy was closing, is helping to nurture GB's talent. Sheffield's National Training Centre at the EIS opened last August and is home to six full-time players, as well as training many other juniors. Alan Cooke (with Knight middle left) and former Chinese player Jia Yi Liu (with Drinkhall left) are GB performance coaches and help the players during tournaments.
