Sticky subject A hot topic of conversation in the table tennis world is a rule change that has recently been brought in. Aiming to protect the health of players, the International Table Tennis Federation has phased out glues (used for sticking rubbers to the bat) that contain toxic materials. New bat rubbers have had to be developed to cope with the new water-based glues. The type of rubber hugely affects the ball's spin and speed, and so players have had to change the way they play many of their shots.
