Priaulx faced one of his heroes Johnny Herbert in the final |
Guernsey racing driver Andy Priaulx won the all-British Race of Champions Legends final in Portugal on Sunday. The three-times World Touring Car champion won two of his three heats against Le Mans winner Johnny Herbert. In the qualifying heats Priaulx beat former rally star Carlos Sainz, Le Mans winner Emanuele Pirro and five-times MotoGP World Champion Mike Doohan. "For me beating Johnny was special as he has always been one of my heroes," Priaulx said. "I have now done three Race of Champions in Paris and Wembley so I know the format well which I don't think all of the drivers did. "However, you have to take advantage of every circumstance and I certainly did that," he added. The event, which featured drivers from southern Europe, is part of the build-up to the Race of Champions in November, which for the first time will be held in Beijing at the Bird's Nest Olympic Stadium.
