Priaulx one place off Pau podium

Andy Priaulx took 10 points from two fourth places in this weekend's two races in the FIA World Touring Car Championship in Pau, France.

The Guernsey driver had qualified first but was dropped from his pole to fifth as a number of drivers were penalised for exceeding the maximum of 8,500rpm.

"I am not sure how to describe my weekend," said Priaulx.

"Ten points is a good haul. However, it could have been so much better if I had not lost my pole."

The decision to penalise the drivers was seen as surprising as the revs had only been over the maximum when down shifting, which has been accepted in motorsport championships around the world for many years.

There was better news for Priaulx in the second race when a crash caused the race to be suspended as he had a damaged right rear damper and a puncture.

Priaulx said: "Although the reason for the race being stopped was not good at all, I was relieved as I would have had to pit with my puncture.

"Luckily I was able to get the necessary repairs, although due to the damaged damper I had no grip and was locking up everywhere."

Priaulx remains in sixth in the drivers' championship with 26 points while defending champion Yvan Muller leads with 45.
