McLaughlin was the youngest rider in the senior race

James McLaughlin recorded the highest finish by a Guernsey Velo Club senior in the National 25 Mile Time Trial Championship in Norfolk on Sunday.

In his first national event as a senior rider, McLaughlin finished 15th of 106 finishers in 53 mins, 4 secs.

The 18-year-old was the youngest competitor in the blue ribband event of the championships, held in Attleborough, Norfolk.

McLaughlin had previously been a medal winner in the junior event.

Aaron Bailey rode in the same race but suffered with heavy rain for almost his entire ride and finished in 70th position overall in his first ever National 25 Mile Time Trial outing.

Junior rider Callum Hill-Smith placed sixth in his category, covering the 25 miles in 59 mins, 53 secs.

A promising ride by Ann Bowditch in the women's race was cut short after 14 miles as she suffered a puncture.
