Americans always feature strongly at the Open and have won seven of the last 10 events despite the misconception that they are not suited to links golf. Alongside Phil Mickelson, Ryder Cup star Stewart Cink goes to Royal Birkdale as the world number six, while Steve Stricker is ranked eighth. The pair were sixth and eighth respectively at Carnoustie last year. Ben Curtis is another worth keeping an eye on after his shock win at Royal St George's in 2003 and his tie for eighth last year. Former US Open champion Jim Furyk has another major in him and finished fourth and 12th in the last two Opens. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites |
