Harrington's victory at Carnoustie was a triumph for European golf, but Britain is still chasing its first Open champion since Paul Lawrie in 1999. Hopes rest with the likes of English trio Lee Westwood, Justin Rose and Paul Casey, and Scottish Open champion Graeme McDowell. Westwood was third at the US Open, while Rose is the top-placed Brit in the world rankings at nine. Colin Montgomerie, 45, is an outside bet, but he was second in 2005 and could yet spring a surprise. The injured Luke Donald pulled out, but watch for English pair Ross Fisher and Oliver Wilson.
