British golf fans will be deprived the magisterial presence of 13-time major champion Tiger Woods, who is recovering from knee surgery following his dramatic US Open win last month.
Woods has won three of the eight Opens this century and his absence offers hope to the rest of the 156-man field. Some might argue that an Open title without Woods playing does not hold as much kudos, but others will beg to differ. "It would be sweeter to beat him, but you have to look at it as an opportunity," said Justin Rose. "Winning would be incredibly special, no matter who you beat."
