Irish impact in the Ryder Cup
Two years later, O'Connor Jnr was the hero after a miraculous two-iron to a couple of feet on the 18th at The Belfry helped sink Fred Couples, as Europe drew the match 14-14 to retain the Cup.
"One more good swing for Ireland, Christy," O'Connor recalled captain Tony Jacklin saying to him.
O'Connor said: "I knew it was airborne and going over the water, and that's all I cared about.
"I had some luck and it happened for me on the day but I'd dread to have to play that shot now. "
