| Wednesday, 5 February, 2003, 13:59 GMT Cadamarteri left in limbo Bradford City have refused to pick Danny Cadamarteri for first-team action until the striker agrees to delay an appearance bonus in his contract. The former Everton striker's wages will rise by 1,000 per week if he reaches 30 appearances for Bradford. He is currently only one game away from that figure but chairman Gordon Gibb is concerned over the striker's ongoing injury problems.
"We wouldn't begrudge Danny that money in the normal run of things if we could guarantee he is fit, but we don't know," Gibb told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus. "We don't want to take the risk of playing him for one game and then ending up paying an extra 1,000 every week for another three years of his contract if he is going to be out long-term with an operation." Gibb added: "I wouldn't like to think it keeps Danny on the bench indefinitly but it's a massive decision for club and player. "Danny is entitled to the money because it is written in his contract and it will get paid when we are in a better position to do so. "But I won't gamble on this. The gambling days are over at Bradford City." Meanwhile, the club have insisted that an incident which left midfielder Jamie Lawrence with a fractured cheekbone has been dealt with internally. |
