Bradford City's players will receive their January wages from the cash-strapped First Division club thanks to the sale of former striker Benito Carbone's house.

City were struggling to find the money to pay Nicky Laws' squad, raising fears that the players would face the kind of delay they had when waiting for their November pay packets.

No home games in January, because of postponements and cup dates, had seen the income dry up.

But the club has managed to delay a �350,000 mortgage re-payment on the Sunwin Stand at Valley Parade.

And the sale of Carbone's former house in Leeds will release the purse strings.

"We always knew that January was going to be the tightest month because of the lack of home games," said chief executive Julian Rhodes.

"But we don't think the wages will be affected. Selling Carbone's house should go some way towards paying that," Rhodes told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper.

The luxury house, which Carbone lived in for two years before leaving the Bantams to join Italian club Como last July, had been on the market for �750,000.

But the price was cut after a previous sale fell through.
