Culio the hero
The club's star player is 25-year-old Juan Emmanuel Culio, a former construction worker who has built a cult following in Transylvania.
The Argentine midfielder was Cluj's match-winner in their debut Champions League group stage game in the Stadio Olimpico two weeks ago, scoring both of their goals in the incredible 2-1 victory over Roma and overshadowing Francesco Totti, the talisman of Italian side.
Culio's brilliance is all the more remarkable considering he had previously only ever scored three goals in his career before stunning Luciano Spaletti's team in Rome.
And less than 18 months after joining the Cluj revolution, Culio could be rewarded with Romanian citizenship to fast-track his selection for the national team.
"I've asked (the football authorities) to start getting the necessary documents," said Romanian Soccer Federation president Mircea Sandu.
