 | STADIUM FACTS Location: Sousse Capacity: 25,000 Club: Etoile Sportive du Sahel |
For a long time Sousse club Etoile Sportive du Sahel played their matches at various dilapidated 'home' grounds.
But that all changed in September 1973 when the club moved to the brand-new Stade Olympique.
The capacity of the stadium was initially just 10,000 but that has since increased to 25,000.
The ground has hosted many big games since coming into existence and was chosen as one of the host stadiums for the 1994 African Cup of Nations.
Away from the stadium
There is plenty to do away from the Stade Olympique, in one of the most vibrant areas of Tunisia.
The resort, which lies on the east coast of the country, mixes both essential historic sightseeing and modern hedonistic pleasures.
Places worth visiting are the ninth century battlements of the Ribat, which is the town's oldest Islamic monument.
For more ancient history it is worth checking out the Kasbah Museum of Antiquities which has a fine collection of Roman mosaics.
There are plenty of restaurants along the golden beachfront to suit everybody's tastes, including a rich array of seafood eateries.
In the evening, many people choose to visit The Marina casino in Port El Kantaoui, six miles from Sousse, where there are regular cabaret nights.
For those interested in dancing the night away, Tunisia's largest nightclub, Maracana, is a popular haunt for visitors and locals.
