Sachin moves up ranks
Second Test, Mohali: India v New Zealand

Tendulkar moved past Javed Miandad at the start of his innings
Sachin Tendulkar was out 10 runs short from overtaking Graham Gooch as the fourth-highest Test run-scorer as the second Test headed towards a draw.

Tendulkar overtook Pakistan's Javed Miandad to move into fifth place but was out for 55 first ball after tea.

Two more wickets fell in the evening session but VVS Laxman steered India to the end of day four an unbeaten 86.

The hosts were 390-6 - still 240 short of New Zealand's first innings 630 but almost certain of a draw.

India lost two wickets early in the day.

Rahul Dravid was caught behind off Ian Butler for 13 and Virender Sehwag bowled by Scott Styris after adding two to his overnight 128.

The fourth-wicket pair added 112 before Tendulkar gave a catch to silly mid-on off Daniel Vettori.

S Waugh (Aus) 10,660 (164)

Laxman batted at subdued pace on a wicket described by Sehwag as "the slowest pitch I've ever played on", facing 226 deliveries and scoring 10 boundaries.

Debutant Yuvraj Singh and wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel both fell cheaply, leaving Anil Kumble to weather 12 minutes before stumps.

Daryl Tuffey had hometown batsman Yuvraj caught behind with an away-swinger to become the 24th New Zealand bowler to pick up 50 Test wickets.

Vettori, with figures of 2-77 in 53 overs, insisted there was still life in the game.

"We've made all the play in this Test and we want to keep doing so," he said. "It's going to be very interesting final day.

"India has a very long tail. If we get them out in the first hour, we've got a chance to go the whole distance."
