Second Test, Mohali, day two (stumps): India v New ZealandNew Zealand's top three batsmen all registered centuries as the tourists reached 536-5 at stumps on day two of the second Test against India.
After the centuries recorded by openers Lou Vincent and Mark Richardson on Thursday, Scott Styris compiled one of his own on Friday.
To add further salt to India's wounds, Craig McMillan ended the day unbeaten on 58 and the prospect of the home side having to take the field for a third day remains a live one.
For the statistics nuts, Friday provided only the seventh instance of the top three in a Test batting line-up all hitting centuries and it was the highest score by New Zealand in India.
Richardson's patient epic was finally ended on 145, when India took their second wicket in the 135th over of the innings.
Harbhajan Singh finally tempted the left-hander, who faced 410 balls in all, to play a lofted drive down the ground and Anil Kumble took the catch.
The dismissal ended a partnership of 151 between Richardson and Styris for the second wicket.
Following the dismissal of Richardson, captain Stephen Fleming slammed 30 off just 35 balls. His innings was out of character compared to his colleagues' efforts but he was eventually out playing a defensive shot against Sachin Tendulkar which sneaked through to bowl him.
Not long afterwards, Styris was finally out for 119, lbw to Kumble for a Test-best 119.
But only one further wicket fell in the day, when Harbhajan Singh had Nathan Astle caught behind for 18.
Kumble and Harbhajan each have two wickets to their names but have sent down a combined 103 overs costing 277 runs.
