Calzaghe faced his old pal and former WBC title holder Richie Woodhall on 16 December 2000. Calzaghe's power and precision proved decisive, Woodhall was stopped in the 10th round and the Telford fighter never fought again. It was Calzaghe's seventh defence of his WBO crown, and he would go on to knock out Germany's Mario Veit and Will McIntyre in 2001.
