Davide Rodari's 71st-minute winner against Tamworth was enough to take Sutton United out of the National League relegation zone.
Sutton started the day in 21st position and without a victory since November 29, but Rodari ensured that run ended in Staffordshire.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, Will Tizzard was sent on for Sutton and further changes occurred with 66 minutes played when Ashley Nadesan and Rodari were sent on.
Five minutes later and the deadlock was broken when Tizzard and Lewis Simper combined allowing Rodari to fire home.
Tamworth, who are now 13th in the table, applied late pressure, but Sutton held firm to claim a first victory in eight matches and move up to 18th.
