Stevenage returned to the League One play-off places with a 1-0 win at home to Blackpool.

Harvey White fired through a crowd from the edge of the area in the 66th minute to find the bottom corner and raise hopes of promotion.

For Blackpool, though, it was a defeat they could do without as it left them just outside the bottom four.

With both sides perhaps conscious of the need not to lose, the first half was not great as a spectacle.

Stevenage did have the better chances, most coming in the final five minutes.

Matt Phillips swivelled and fired over from six yards before Bailey Peacock-Farrell produced a wonderful double save to deny Jasper Pattenden, who had ghosted in at the far post unmarked.

The visitors came closest in the early stages of the second half, a Leighton Clarkson free-kick bending round the wall but coming flush off the near post in the 59th minute.

Seven minutes later, White had his moment and Stevenage should have wrapped it up when Phillips got in behind after a clever pass.

His low shot flew across the keeper but wide of the far post.
