I guess you are writing this as dusk falls on a typical Harris Sunday when the world has stopped for the day. The islands are sombre and those prone to depression can feed off this - it happens in Finland too - the blue light for SAD can be very effective. I've taken my share of Prozac and Setraline in the past but came off them as I got fed up feeeling as if the KGB had got to me. Look for the positives in your life and live within the hour while you feel this way - don't look back, don't look forward just get the best out of the present. Eat sensibly and keep off carbs as this fuels depression. That'll be twelve guineas please...

A little holiday in Afganistan would perhaps help put your life into perspective. I am sure you have lots to be thankful for, take time, make plans carry them out, keep postive.Remind yourself regularly that you are a postitive person (even when your not feeling that way) be strict with yourself and kind to others. ((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) my answer is to become a hermit. Doesn`t work for everyone tho, have to admit.

Hang in there, IL, bad days come but they do go away again. Try to do something you enjoy, give yourself a wee treat, whatever floats your boat. Sometimes it works! Good luck.

Sounds to me like a read of 'Aimsir Eachainn: A View from North Lochs' by Hector Macdonald might do you some good. It's just been published and is really very good indeed. Read most of it yesterday and the chortle factor was high. And it needs to be something good for me to chortle through a bleak, dark December Lewis Sunday...

That was cheap at 12 guineas!

snoopy and the peanuts gang, a big bar of chocolate and a good cup of coffee, works for me when feeling blue.

I hope you're feeling better today. Be positive, think positively, the happy pills don't always work. A friendly smile from a loved one, is worth more than all the prozac in Lewis. Cheery, and if coming on IB and doing this helps you, then carry on doing it ( not a carry on film thing, but just keep us informed IL) :)

Also stroking a cat is very good...isn't it mia? (why are carbohydrates bad? Don't you feel kind of empty without them?)

Keep yer chin up, we IB'ers are always here if you need a wee chat.

I think we all go through these cycles of up and down depending on what life throws at us. I remember being totally shocked when I grew up and realized that life wasn't all fun and games and that sometimes it really hurt to exist. I agree with the cat stroking - it won't take the problem away but at least you can enjoy a few minutes of bliss!

oh yes FC, that is one of the major cure alls in this household. when staff are poorly I snuggle up beside them and purr, you did know that a cats purr is therapeutic? As for carbohydrates, female staff reckons that everytime there is a news article about food it all comes to the same thing, food isn't good for you, so she refuses to worry about it any more!

at least you have your loved ones around you, last year i wasn't with mine last year and i was fine-this year at this side of the world again but feeling very homesick even though i know i'm a lucky woman

Thanks LI and all other IBs. I've been really delighted to have tuned into IB and your various ways of expressing yourselves and coping with things. How boring life would be if it was all plain sailing, IL! I find my life goes on at at least 2 levels - the mundane, everyday life and another, much tougher one with lots of ups and downs. But I wouldn't want to loose that one - I think it is my real life. Good luck and Dog Bless for 2008.
