Food glorious food.

The last replies to my previous blog mentioned a whole range of ideas about what islands look like. What really struck the cord with me was that Ronas Hill and other sites on Shetland look like food.

So I've been thinking about nice foody links such as Fetlar Fudge, Bressay Broth and Foula Fishcakes. I'll have to stop this now as it's getting sad.

There's a big ship /boat /yacht in Lerwick harbour which has lots of masts and ropes, and it looks like something out of the Onedin Line (sorry old TV programme for those of a younger persuasion). Seems also to have decanted lots of folk as the town seemed busier than usual.

On a sadder note let's hope the Norwegian families whose sons and fathers died in the North sea last week found some comfort in their trip to the islands.

That's enough from me for just now (now you see why I'm called sad_dell), I'm off with the dog to Quendale beach, the wind appears to be coming from the North so it should be sheltered. It's a fantastic beach for those who have not been to it, almost looks like a custard which has been toasted under the grill!

Big ship probably Statsraad Lehmkuhl she was in Orkney about the same time. The Norskis have three tall ships which are often called the white sisters, although they are not actually sister ships in a technical sense. One of them, Christian Radich, was in the Onedin Line. I think she played the Pampero. As to things culinary; how about Sumburgh Sausage ( I will refrain from the scurrilous tale of Sumburgh Soup), Northmavine Nougat or Ronas Roast.
