The Templetonian magazine was produced regularly by the Glasgow-based James Templeton and Company. These magazines are a valuable source of information on the history of carpet making in Scotland and an insight into the social history of Scotland in the 20th century. From the pages of the magazine we can discover that the company acquired its first 'digital computer' in 1965! The autumn edition of the magazine in 1965 mentions computer 'jargon' such as 'data processing' and 'programming' for the first time. This technological innovation is balanced by reports that 'it is becoming less easy to sell abroad with more competition from other exporting countries and from local production in the importing country'. Another edition of the magazine in the 1960s hopes that workers who 'go to the Costa Brava or Majorca will feel that their journey has been worthwhile' while those who 'stay at home for their holidays will have a better summer than last year'.
