 CARNIVAL AND CRIME
Laurie Taylor is joined by sociologist and cultural criminologist Dr Mike Presdee to debate his thesis that the reason behind the recent increase in the number of fire-related crimes concerns our need for excitement and carnival.
Mike Presdee is a member of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the University of Kent and the author of an essay Burning Issues: Fire, Carnival and Crime to be published later this year in the second edition of Cultural Criminology and the Carnival of Crime
WHAT IS CARNIVAL?
David Shepherd, Professor of Russian at The University of Sheffield and Director of the Bakhtin Centre and Daniel Miller, Professor of Anthropology at University College London discuss the meaning of carnival and its particular manifestation in contemporary Trinidad.
